The working role of the Sport and Club Development Officer is based on the remit of "Sport Englands Activity Community" and "St. Helens Community Programmes". Initiating ways of using sport to tackle issues such as social inclusion, health, community safety and regeneration fall under this working role. Provision of opportunity for sport and recreational activity for all levels of participant is a main driver in the effort to address the objectives of the community programme.
Progessive development if "Grass Roots" sports provision is a key issue. Initiating actions that will raise standards of provision in our sports clubs and working closely with our local schools to encourage after school sport and recreational participation is a priority.
Key areas of work:
Club Development working to improve the "Health of our Community Sports Clubs" encompassing St. Helens District Sports Council Partnership Development Issues including:
- Club Accreditation
- Coach Education
- Volunteer Recruitment, Retention and Deployment.
Community Sport - Two key objectives:
- Increase sporting participation levels of school children during out of school hours.
- Work with a variety of community partners to increase sport and recreation opportunities without our targeted areas of deprivation.
Volunteer Investment Programme:
To recruit/train and deploy sport volunteers to increase the capacity of our Community Sports Programme. Working towards a strategy applicable to the Borough of St. Helens and working in partnership with Merseyside Sport.

Funding:
Working with Club and Community Groups to access all relevant funding resources and to assist with and secure funding applications.
Sports Directory:
Produce and maintain an updated directory that informs the community of the wide variety of sports clubs, leisure facilities and recreational facilities and all relevant points of contact. |
